Catching up on summer Part 2

Salma and Vivi, a dear friend.
We were in the UK briefly accompanying my dad on a medical treatment. I did not take much photographs of our London trip. Having a three-year old in a city like london was a hectic ordeal.

The Acropolis
Then we travelled, we saw and we came back with such striking images of the Peloponesse in Greece to last us enough time till we meet again, does it sound like a love affair to you? Well I have never been timid about this little histoire d’amour. Driving from Athens to CostaNavarino you are stuck with a landscape shimmering with sliver olive trees swaying under the greek sun. The mountains are embedded with monasteries, some built in the byzantine time and the area has a rich and long history of battles and victories won by the Greeks.

Siropiasta

A local patisserie in Kalamata
Most times, street foods and things we buy in local shops and bakeries beat the best foods eaten at five-star hotels. The above Spanakopita, I got from a local bakery just off King George Hotel in the Syntagma district in Athens was excellent, they also had the best Simitia. Those Siropiasta, which were ice cream stuffed filo fingers we had at a local patisserie in Kalamata were amazing. Me and my dad could not have enough of them. Of course we could not travel with any like we did with some Kourabidies. More challenges for me to try to create in my kitchen.
